Because of the wonderful Renaissance architecture that has made the city famous, people tend to forget that there was a significant Roman settlement in Paris, particularly in this part of the community. This large arena would have been built at some time during the 1st Century. There were many uses for the theatre which included sporting events, theatre and music. It was the centrepiece and social hub of a vibrant Roman Paris.
