This marvellous neoclassical building is located at the summit of a large hill, close to the River Seine in central Paris. It was originally intended to be a church, but has over the years been used for a variety of purposes. It is probably best known as being a burial place, and contains some of the more famous residents of the city, including Voltaire, Rousseau and Victor Hugo among many other famous writers, musicians, public figures and royalty.
