One of the oldest parts of the original fortifications of the city, this historic tower still remains in as good condition today as when it was constructed. For many hundreds of years Belfort found itself under attack and under siege as the French internal wars went on between dukes and kings before the establishment of a central rule. This tower is typical of the heavy fortifications that many cities would have employed to protect their people against such onslaughts.
