This simple but beautiful public square was once a fairground at the heart of the city. After the First World War it was decided that a large monument would be erected in honour of the many millions of men from across the continent that lost their lives in the conflict. The square soon became one of the most popular places for meeting in the city and still today retains a busy and bustling charm, quite unlike anywhere else in the community.
