The reason that this garden was built in the 1920s is thought by many to have been to try and mask the ever growing hygiene problem that had developed in the community. Whether this is true or not doesn’t really matter as the fine looking gardens soon became accepted as one of the best places to rest and relax in the city. Covered with flowerbeds, plants and trees, it is a tranquil wilderness away from crowds and traffic.
