The Municipal Theatre was founded in 1842 and innaugarated two years later. It is one of the most spectacular buildings in this area of the city and is the architectural work of Isabelle. Much of the theatre is decorated with works of art by David d’Angers. The theatre has room for around five hundred spectators to watch performances surrounded by an ornate painted woodwork auditorium. The programme of events is eclectic and exciting throughout the year.
