Situated in the northern reaches of the Botanical Garden, close to the River Seine, this small zoo was founded in 1794. It has a long and rich history associated with the city, not least the bizarre story of the Prussian siege of the city in 1870, which resulted in starving Parisians eating most of the animals in the zoo. Today, the facility has a large collection of animals from across the world and a microzoo on display.
