Orléans has a long and proud tradition of ethnic diversity, and throughout the last few hundred years has been home to a big community of Jewish people. Like many cities and towns in France, this Jewish community was devastated by the aggression of the Nazi army in the Second World War. The Synagogue is a symbol of the ongoing strength of the people and their faith in Europe, despite the odds being stacked against them at times. A beautiful place of worship it is well used by local people.
