The Sorbonne can quite rightfully claim to be one of the most famous places of study in the world and is certainly as prestigious as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale universities. Established in 1253 by Robert de Sorbon, originally only 16 students studied at the old chapel, all of them in the field of theology. Today the university is a vast complex that covers many parts of the city, teaching a wide array of academic disciplines. The old chapel is the only part of the original building remaining.
