When this fine bridge was built in 1607, it seemed like an appropriate name to be given new bridge, but as time has gone on it has become the oldest surviving bridge in Paris. A wonderful construction of white stone links both banks of the River Seine with the Ile de la Cité in between. The bridge was commissioned and opened by King Henri IV who inaugurated the structure by riding a white horse across it. There are seven arches, each decorated with a different theme.
