Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the great military leaders of France, famous for his battles with the English, and particularly Lord Horatio Nelson. He fell out of favour with the government and ended his life in 1821 in exile on the island of St. Helena. Once again gaining the respect of the French, posthumously Napoleons remains were brought to Paris in 1840, and between 1843 and 1853 this beautiful tomb to him was constructed. It is now a popular tourist attraction.
