There has always been a close link between the French and the Jewish people. During the Second World War, many Parisians risked their lives to protect Jews who were being persecuted by the Nazi occupiers. This museum of art and history was established to start to collect together the many pieces of historical interest that had been partially destroyed and lost across Europe during the Holocaust. It now houses a vast array of interesting paintings, documents and artefacts related to Judaism.
