Constructed between 1971 and 1977 Centre George Pompidou is better known to the English as the Pompidou Centre. It is situated in the Beaubourg area of Paris. The vast centre is home to a huge public library which has one of the finest collections of literature in the country. It also houses the National Modern Art Gallery. The facility is named after the former President of France Georges Pomidou, and is noted as one of the most spectacular pieces of modern architecture in the city.
