There has been a place of local authority on this site as an administrative centre since the 14th Century, and therefore it has always been a significant place in the town centre. This structure was primarily built in the early 20th Century and has been built in such a way as to celebrate the Classical architectural roots of the city. The vast columns that sit in front of the building give it a certain majesty and grace that is worthy of the towns affluent and prestigious status in the region.
