Situated on a small island in the middle of the Canal du Thiou, one of several that run through the town, this palace is one of the top visitor attractions in the area. It was once a prison house, located on the island to make it more difficult to escape from. Today, the fantastic building is filled with exhibitions relating to the social and political history of Annecy and the surrounding regions. During the summer months, tours are available in English.
