A Unesco World Heritage Site, the Pont du Gard is one of the most visited tourist attractions in southern France. The towering three tiered Roman aqueduct crosses the River Gard and was originally constructed to carry water from Uzes to Nimes in around 19 AD. The best views of this fantastic bridge can be obtained by climbing to the summit on either side of the river valley and looking down at this perfectly preserved piece of architectural history. Expect to be joined by over two million visitors a year at this busy spot.
