Originally in the Middle Ages the town of Uzes was surrounded by battlements that protected it against attack from aggressive armies that roamed the local region. When this area of the battlements was taken down in the 17th Century, this interesting domed tower was built on the site of an older military tower. It served as a house for the celebrated local man Racine when he visited the town and therefore was named after him in his memory and honour.
