This is the site of the former law courts of Marseille, and it was once that the guillotine awaited those who were to executed in this area of the town. The Pavillon Daviel was constructed of pink stone from local quarries by the Gerard brothers, between 1743 and 1747. The building is marvelously decorated with sculptures and artworks, on the outside around a beautiful iron balcony, that has the city coat of arms on it. The building today serves as part of the city hall building.
