This sculpture is the centrepiece of one of the finest squares in Paris. Sculpted as a tribute to the amazing Lion de Belfort by Auguste Bartholdi this piece is almost an exact replica and is a dominating piece at the heart of the square. The area itself is steeped in history and was named after the colonel who led the French defence of the city of Belfort during the ongoing Prussian attacks during one of the bloodiest wars in 1870.
