This area is the oldest part of the city of Marseille, and is an absolute must for anyone visiting the city as a tourist. The maze of beautiful streets that lead into the Quartier du Panier are some of the most charming in the whole of France, and enchant all who go there. The area was once home to a series of orphanages, but today many of the surrounding ancient buildings are being used as small museums and art house cinemas, forming one of the cultural hubs of the city.
