Built in the Champs de Mars, beside the River Seine, the Eiffel Tower was constructed in 1889 and named after the architect of the structure, Gustave Eiffel who actually lived at the top of the tower for some time. The tower when constructed was the tallest building in the world and remained so until 1930, when the Chrysler Building was built in New York. This monument is the most visited attraction in the world and the timeless symbol of the great French capital. There are steps and lifts to the top of the tower.
