Situated at the western end of the Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe is one of the most recognised structures in Paris, at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle. The monument was constructed in 1806, after the victory at Austerlitz, in celebration of the great Napoleon Is endeavours at the height of his military success. Standing 51 metres high and 45 metres wide, the construction is the second largest victory arch in the world, and offers spectacular views of Paris from the top.
