The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is one of two that Napoleon I ordered to be built to celebrate his military victories. The grand structure was built over a period of two years between 1806 and 1808 and is situated directly outside of the Louvre Gallery. On top of the statue are bronze horse which were removed and taken away to Rome, but eventually returned to their rightful place after the Second World War.
