The town of Uzes was a Bishopric for many centuries from Norman times until the late Middle Ages. The original cathedral building was constructed in 1090 but destroyed by fighting a few hundred years later. The current cathedral building was erected in 1652. It has a fine example of a neo-Romanesque facade at the front that was added to complement the existing structure in the early 19th Century. The adjoining chapels have the remains of several interesting paintings and pictures of religious significance.
