This enormous synagogue was built in the 1950s at the heart of Strasbourg as a place of worship for the large Jewish community of the city. The original synagogue in the city was destroyed by the Nazi Germans during the Second World War and therefore, as a symbol of long lasting peace and reconciliation, this facility was constructed in a prominent position in the city. It is open to the public for worship and prayer throughout the week.
