The Porte de Mars is one of the finest pieces of public architecture in the city of Reims. A triumphant arch, reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe in the centre of Paris, this beautiful sculpture was erected in the 3rd Century. It stands at the centre of a small park in the middle of the Place de la République, one of the most historic and interesting parts of the city. During the French Revolution, this site was used to house the dreaded guillotine.
