This tower is a flamboyant display of Gothic design of the very highest order. Situated close to the River Seine this tower is all that is left of the Saint James Church of the Butchers that was originally built in the early 1500s. The Butchers Guild of Paris was once an extremely powerful organisation with money at their disposal to take on such grand projects. The whole of the church except the tower was destroyed in 1797.
