Situated next to the river, until the 1960s, the area where the park now stands was the bustling centre of a large scale wine importation business. Many warehouses lined the river banks and took delivery of cases of drinks from the railway and the river. The decline of this industry saw the opportunity to build a new urban park. Keeping true to the original theme of the area, this beautiful, but in places rather bizarre, area has a vineyard section within it, next to the wide lawns that make it so pleasing to the eye.
