Gustave Moreau lived most of his life in the French capital, dying there in 1898. One of the truly great symbolist painters of the 19th Century, Moreau had his studio in his house in this beautiful part of the city. He wanted his residence to be turned into a museum after his death, and it duly has become, now a popular gallery. The charm of this place is that the exhibits by Moreau are hung in the places where he actually worked, giving an overwhelming feeling of his presence.
