The Flame of Liberty is situated on the northern edge of the Pont dAlma which crosses the River Seine in central Paris. It was erected in 1987 at the same time as the world famous Statue of Liberty was refurbished. The monument is an exact replica of the flame that is on top of the torch on the New York statue. The proximity of the monument to the tunnel in which Princess Diana died meant that for many years this has been considered an unofficial memorial to the princess.
