Cimiez Cemetery and Monastery

Although for many, visiting a cemetery may conjure up images of a gothic novel or a morbid experience, this place is a far cry from such thoughts. Located at the hill top location of Cimiez, the cemetery overlooks most of Nice, giving fantastic panoramic views of the outstanding coast line. The graves are beautifully crafted from white stone, and amongst some of the celebrities buried there is Matisse, the great artist who ended his days in the city.
