The windmill is one of the iconic images of this area and one of the best preserved industrial monuments. It was built in 1889 and served for many decades as one of the prime sources of flour production for an area that enjoyed a great deal of bread. The building was finally decommissioned when quicker and cheaper methods were employed through heavy industry. The mill is now open to the public after a large scale refurbishment at the end of the 20th Century. Bookings must be made in advance by telephone.
