Stendhal was born in Grenoble in 1783, and is recognised by most as being one of the most famous sons of the community. He was a celebrated author and poet, writing a vast array of works that are still widely respected today. None more so though than his absolute classic Le Rouge et le Noir, or the Red and the Black which shot him to critical acclaim. This museum exhibits many documents, artefacts and books that are related to Stendhals life and works.
