It is rather odd that this church is built of wood and the church that stood on this site before was made of stone, it is usually the other way around. After the original structure was destroyed in the Hundred Years war, this fine example of local ecclesiastical architecture was built. It is thought that the 15th and 16th Century church was built of wood so that local shipbuilders could be involved in the project and it wouldnt cost too much money. The product is a church that looks a bit like a ship!
