The Public Gardens were first opened in the 1860s and have since that time become one of the best loved features of the town centre. Well used by local people and visitors alike, they offer a place of pastoral tranquillity, rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of town life. Surrounded by mature trees and lined with sweet smelling and colourful flowerbeds, you cannot fail to enjoy a sunny afternoon in this wonderful parkland.
