Situated about thirty miles to the north of the central hub of Verdun in these battlefield areas of France, this fort was a part of the magnificent Maginot Line that the French built before the Second World War in order to keep the Germans from invading. This fortress is a vast underground bunker that is about thirty metres deep. It was heavily attacked by the Germans and surrender in summer 1940. Tours are offered with a guide who speaks a selection of languages and it is open throughout the year.
