This beautiful castle towers above the mountain town of Foix and was first begun in the 10th Century. It has quite an imposing presence in the community; largely due to three crenulated towers that soar above the town and warn those wishing to attack that there will be much resistance from the people of Foix. The chateau served as a prison for a long period of time from the 16th Century and if you walk about the area you can still see some markings of graffiti that have been left by some of the inmates.
