One of the best ways to get to know the ancient city of Belfort is to walk around the old city walls that surround the inner town centre and the chateau. These walls are almost complete and offer a high vantage point to look down at the architecture and attractions of the ancient and the modern city, as well as offering beautiful unspoilt views off into the surrounding countryside. The walls were built for defence and many of the original fittings are in place.
