Situated under the St. Germain Abbey, these crypts are one of the best kept secrets of Auxerre. The amazingly well preserved tombs have been decorated with a great many frescoes, some of which have been dated from as far back as the 9th Century. Further excavations in recent times have found evidence of activity in the crypts from Merovingian period, which started around the end of the 5th Century. This is an amazing place that all visitors to Auxerre must see.
