This museum features a rather eclectic collection. Although it is broadly focused on art history, it is hard to see how some of the prehistoric exhibits fit into that category. That said it is a fascinating place to spend an afternoon in Auxerre. There are a great many exhibitions within the museum that span many thousands of years, culminating in an impressive collection of contemporary art at the end of the tour. Several well known local French artists are represented.
